Bradley in his own words
Who they are
Meet Bradley
Psychotherapy and counselling in Hove.
A private practice that had been through a string of other people before us and had the invoices to prove it. Bradley is not quoting a percentage in his video because there was not one to quote yet. He had been working with us a few weeks when it was filmed.
What he says in the video is that he had tried a lot of other people and spent literally thousands with really very little return. He is not saying that about search engines. He is saying it about agencies.
That is the hardest starting position there is, because the first thing you have to overcome is not Google. It is a client who has every reason to assume this is going the same way as the last four.
The problem
Why counselling is not searched for like a service
Nobody wakes up and searches for a psychotherapist. They search for the thing that is wrong. Anxiety. Not sleeping. Drinking too much. A relationship coming apart. The word therapy often does not appear at all, and the word psychotherapy almost never does.
A single page saying counselling in Hove is therefore invisible to most of the people who need it, because it does not contain any of the language they are actually using. It reads as a description of a profession written by somebody inside that profession.
So the practice was rebuilt around problems instead. Anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationships each got their own page, written in the words somebody in that situation would use rather than the clinical term for it. The Google profile was set to match, so the profile and the site stopped describing two slightly different practices.
There was a geographic piece too, and it is one people get wrong constantly. Hove and Brighton are one place if you live there and two places to Google. They return different results and need saying separately, which is why the practice now appears near the top for the Hove searches while the Brighton ones are still being fought for.
The word psychotherapy almost never appears in what people actually type.
The work
What we did
Counselling is searched for by problem, not by profession. Anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationships. Each of those needed its own place on the site and the profile instead of one page saying counselling. Everything else is the same weekly work as any other client.
The thinking
A page per problem, not one page saying counselling
Anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationships each got their own page, because somebody looking for help types the thing that is wrong, not the name of the profession.
The profile rebuilt around the same list
Categories, services and the description on the Google Business Profile were set to match, so the profile and the site stopped describing two different practices.
Hove and Brighton treated separately
They are one place to a resident and two places to Google. Separate pages, because "counselling Hove" and "counselling Brighton" return different results.
The craft
- On-page
- Titles, descriptions and headings written in the language somebody in difficulty uses, not the clinical term.
- Structured data
- LocalBusiness, ProfessionalService and Person markup, plus breadcrumbs and video, so Google reads the practice and the practitioner.
- Citations
- Consistent details across the directories Google checks.
- Technical
- Canonicals set so no page competes with itself, and the problem pages linked to reinforce each other.
- Every week
- A post to the profile, and every review answered.
The result
What changed
- +401%More often shown on GoogleSearch results and their Google profile, added together
- +103%More clicks from GooglePeople who went on to the website
If this sounds like your business
If people find you by describing a problem rather than by naming your profession, the wording on your site is doing more work than any amount of technical tuning ever will. Solicitors, therapists, consultants and specialists of every kind have the same gap.
It usually shows up as a site written from the inside, in the language of the trade, for a reader who does not use that language yet. Closing that gap is not a rewrite of everything. It is giving each problem a page in the words somebody in that situation would actually use.
The free analysis shows you which of those searches you already appear for, which ones you are missing, and who is currently being found instead. You keep the recording either way.
