Who they are

Meet Ash

Tyres and auto servicing in Norwich.

  1. Ash had opened six months earlier and had already paid two other firms for Google and Facebook ads with nothing to show for it. The garage was busy enough when people found it. The problem was that drivers a mile away could not.

  2. Both of the firms before us had sold him ads. Ads stop the day you stop paying for them, which is manageable when the margin is there and ruinous six months into a lease. Neither left anything behind that kept working.

  3. The garage itself was not the problem. He fits tyres, does MOTs, services cars, regasses air conditioning, sets wheel alignment, changes brakes and batteries. Ask Google about any of it in Norwich and he did not exist. A driver a mile away with a flat had no way of finding him.

The problem

Why a tyre shop was only ever a tyre shop

The thing that had quietly capped this business was the word tyres. It was in the name, it was in the Google category, and it was the only service with a page on the site. Google had no reason to believe he did anything else, so it never showed him for anything else.

That matters more than it sounds, because tyres are the thinnest margin on the price list. An MOT is a booked appointment. An air conditioning regas is a fifteen minute job at a good margin. Wheel alignment is often sold alongside the tyres he was already fitting. Every one of those was work he was equipped to do, wanted to do, and was invisible for.

So the job was not to make him rank harder for tyres. It was to stop the business being described by one word. Each service got its own page written as though it were the only thing he sold, and the Google profile was rebuilt to list the same set. Within two months the garage was showing up for MOTs, air conditioning and alignment in Norwich, none of which had ever produced a single impression before.

Part worn tyres turned out to be the surprise. It is searched on its own, by people who have already decided on budget before they open Google, and it now brings more people to the listing than any other single service. Nobody had thought to give it a page.

A garage makes its money on everything except the tyres.

The work

What we did

A garage lives or dies on the map. We rebuilt the Google Business Profile around what people actually search for in Norwich, tyre fitting, wheel alignment, servicing, brake repairs, and made sure every one of those services was on the profile and on the site. Then the weekly work started: a post every week, every review answered, and the citations tidied up so the same name, address and phone number appeared everywhere.

The thinking

Everything he does, said out loud

MOT, servicing, air conditioning, wheel alignment, brakes and batteries were all work he already did and none of them had a page. Tyres were the only thing Google knew about.

Part worn treated as its own thing

It gets searched on its own, by people who have already decided on budget, and it is now his single biggest source of impressions.

The profile matched to the garage

Categories and services set to the full job list rather than tyre shop, so the profile stopped narrowing him.

The craft

On-page
Title tags, descriptions and heading structure written around the search. Six sections and sixteen sub-headings on the home page alone.
Structured data
AutoRepair and LocalBusiness markup carrying hours, services and location. Every image has alt text.
Citations
Name, address and phone made consistent across the directories Google cross-checks. Duplicates removed.
Technical
Canonical tags set so no two versions of a page compete, and internal links pointed into the service pages.
Every week
A post to the profile, and every review answered.

If this sounds like your business

If you run a workshop, the odds are Google knows you for one of the things you do and nothing else. Most garages have four or five services earning almost nothing online, not because the work is any worse but because nothing on the site or the profile ever says they exist.

That is the cheapest ground there is to take. You are already equipped, already staffed and already doing the job when somebody asks in person. The only thing missing is that the people searching for it two miles away cannot see that you offer it.

The free analysis shows you exactly which of your services are invisible in your town and who is currently taking those searches instead. You keep the recording either way.
