The closest we can show are three client profiles in tyres: two mobile fitters who go out to stranded drivers at any hour, and a tyre and servicing garage. Each figure is calls from the Google Business Profile, from the first month we tracked to the best month since, using Google's complete monthly data.

It gets your business into the map and the ordinary search results when people near you look for a plumber, then keeps it there. For a plumber, that starts with the Google Business Profile, because the map sits near the top of an emergency search, and moves on to the pages and reviews behind it.
The work is the same for a one-van plumber and a firm with several vans. If you would rather do it yourself, the plumbers' local SEO guide covers the groundwork for free. This page is about us doing it for you.
Your main category is chosen for the work you want most. 'Plumber', 'Gas engineer', 'Central Heating Service' and 'Drainage service' all head busy plumbing profiles, and each one draws different searches. How to choose yours.
A burst pipe is searched in a panic. A new boiler is weighed up over days and won by the page that answers the questions. So boiler repair, power flushing, leak detection and blocked drains each get a page in the words people search with, and the site is marked up as a Plumber business so search engines can read what you do.
Homeowners can search the Gas Safe Register for a gas business by business name, registration number or business phone number, and find plumbers on WaterSafe by postcode. So the trading name and phone number are kept identical across your Google profile, your site, any trade platform and those registers.
Every customer gets asked, with one simple request, so reviews keep coming when the work goes quiet. A busy winter and a silent summer leave your newest review months old by autumn, and specialists rate review recency among the signals that matter locally.
More of them type 'plumber near me' than 'plumber' on its own. Google's Keyword Planner puts 'plumber near me' at about 90,500 UK searches a month, against 60,500 for 'plumber', and the near-me version came out ahead in each of the twelve months to September 2026.
Near me is taken literally. Google's guide to local ranking names distance from the searcher among the three factors it mainly bases local results on, and falls back on what it knows of where they are if they haven't shared it. The distance is counted from the address you verified the profile with, hidden or not. So a plumber two streets from a burst pipe can show above a bigger firm across town.
Urgency changes the words. On the same Keyword Planner figures, 'emergency plumber' (12,100 a month) is searched more than ten times as often as '24 hour plumber' (880). So your profile and pages lead with 'emergency', and they only say 24 hours if somebody really answers at 3am.
Some names in the plumbing map results read like searches rather than businesses, such as a town followed by 'emergency plumber'. Google's guidelines say a profile name must not include service or location information. If any sit above you, the free analysis points them out. We won't pad your name to copy them.
In winter, and hardest in a freeze. Over the five years to October 2026, UK searches for 'boiler repair', 'burst pipe' and 'emergency plumber' all had their busiest week in the same seven days, 11 to 17 December 2022 (Google Trends). The Met Office called the first two weeks of that December the coldest start to winter since 2010.
An ordinary winter has the same shape, only gentler. Keyword Planner shows 'boiler repair' at 6,600 UK searches a month from November 2025 to January 2026, and 2,400 in June and July 2026. Gas Safe Register's winter advice gives the reason: heavier use 'can put extra pressure on your appliances and leave them at risk of breaking down when you need them the most'.
So the quiet months are the useful ones. In June and July, with boiler searches at their lowest, there is time for the slow jobs: new pages, reviews from the summer's work and a tidy profile. In a freeze, no plumber has an evening spare for any of it. We still won't tell you where you will rank by December, because nobody can know that in advance.
Per lead or per month, at prices that vary by job and by place, and you pay whether or not the job ends up yours. None of the big sellers publishes one standard price for a plumbing lead, but each publishes how its charging works.
A platform can fill a quiet week, and Local Services Ads are shown prominently in Google's results. Your own profile counts there too. Google says star ratings and the number of reviews affect where you rank in Local Services Ads, and that higher-quality ad profiles may also pay lower costs per lead. Those reviews are your Google Business Profile reviews, which stay yours whatever you buy. How the platforms compare.
Plumbers are an eligible UK category. Google charges for every valid lead, at a price that varies with location and job type. Miss a call in your opening hours, say with your arms under a sink, and it still counts as a lead if the caller stays on the line for more than 20 seconds.
Its pricing page lists a free profile, an Approved plan at £30 a month for the Checkatrade tick, and Growth plans with leads from £59 a month. Fixed plans run for 12 months. Under its pay-as-you-go terms of 20 February 2026, a call, a message, a quote request or a click to your website is a lead, and the fee varies with 'job value, channel, location, seasonality and supply/demand'.
Its terms of 4 March 2026 tie each shortlist fee to the job's likely size, value and location, and make it payable once the customer's contact details reach you. In MyBuilder's own words, 'it is not necessary for you to be awarded the Job' for that fee to be due.
The company behind it resolved to wind itself up at a meeting on 16 September 2026. Its announcement of 17 September 2026 told members their memberships had ended, and answered the question about their reviews with 'Join Checkatrade and start collecting reviews today'. More on what changed.
They are the checks a homeowner can run before opening the door to you, so your profile and pages have to agree with them. Gas Safe is the legal one. As Gas Safe Register puts it, 'by law, all gas businesses and engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register'.
So gas work only appears on your profile and site if your engineers are registered for it. Each engineer's Gas Safe card shows the work categories they can legally do, such as natural gas or a domestic boiler. If boilers aren't on your registration, we build your visibility around the water, drainage and bathroom work you do instead. The plumbers' guide shows what to photograph on the card.
WaterSafe Register is voluntary. You get on it by joining an approved contractor scheme (APHC, CIPHE, SNIPEF or WIAPS), and Water Regs UK, which runs it, says there is no requirement to join a scheme at all. What membership gives you is concrete: approved contractors can do certain work without notifying the water supplier first, and can issue Certificates of Compliance. Homeowners search its directory by postcode, so it is one more listing where your details must match.
WRAS approves products, not plumbers. The Water Regulations Approval Scheme certifies plumbing products and materials against the water fittings regulations. A page can say you fit WRAS-approved products where that is true. Calling yourself a WRAS-approved plumber mixes the two up, because plumbers are approved through the four contractor schemes instead.
Because two plumbers in one patch are after the same few places on the map, and we can't push you both up them. So an area goes to the first plumber who asks, and stays theirs while they are with us. Any other plumber chasing the same jobs there gets a no.
We don't have a plumbing client yet, so no plumber has taken an area with us. Every area is open today, and each one closes to other plumbers when its first plumber signs up.
Whoever you talk to, us included, ask whether they already work for a plumber near you.
Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results. There is nothing to pay upfront: you pay nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met.
Websites, ads and social media are quoted separately after the free analysis. How pay on results works
Tell us your trade and area. We record a short video of where you rank, who is above you and what would have to change. It is yours to keep.
If your market is not winnable, we say so. If it is, we agree in writing what a result is and how it is measured, before anything starts.
Your Google Business Profile, the pages that need to rank, citations and reviews. One business per trade per area, so never your rival as well.
Clicks, calls and where you show up, in your own portal, straight from Google. You pay once the agreed results are met.
Not yet, and we would rather tell you than borrow another trade's numbers and call them plumbing. The nearest proof is above: tyre businesses whose customers also ring in a hurry, with the months and the source beside every figure. It also means no plumber has taken an area with us yet.
We don't publish prices. The figure depends on the work you want and the plumbers you're up against: winning emergency calls around your base and ranking for boiler installs across a whole city are very different amounts of work. You get a figure once we've seen your area, and before you agree to anything. There is nothing upfront and nothing to pay until the results agreed in writing are met. Once they are met, the fee is monthly and rolling, and you can end it at any point. Stopping before that costs you nothing. How UK SEO pricing works.
We won't give you a date, and treat anyone who does with suspicion. Nobody controls how fast Google moves or how hard the plumbers above you push back. Your free analysis shows the size of that gap, and says plainly if your area isn't winnable. Until the result we agreed is met, the wait costs you nothing.
Ask four questions. Do you already work for a plumber near me? What do I pay before anything improves? Can I see the calls and clicks myself, straight from Google? Have you got plumbing clients? Our answers: never a rival plumber, nothing upfront, yes in your own portal, and not yet.
Start with what you own: a Google profile that shows up near you, reviews that keep arriving and a website that makes ringing you easy. Platforms and ads can fill a quiet fortnight, but every lead from them is paid for. For the do-it-yourself route, read local SEO for plumbers.
Use them alongside if they pay their way. They charge per lead or per month, while a well-placed Google profile doesn't charge you per call. The profile work also feeds Local Services Ads, because the reviews Google ranks those ads on are your Google reviews. If you want ads managed, we quote them separately after the free analysis.
Yes. If most of your work is boilers and heating, the profile is built around that, with 'Gas engineer' or 'Central Heating Service' as the main category where it fits. Gas work only goes on your profile and site if your engineers are registered for it.
No. If your site is sound, we take it on as it is, whoever built it. If it is holding the phone back, the analysis says so, and a rebuild gets its own quote, outside pay on results. See websites for tradesmen.
Tell us where you work and which plumbing jobs you'd like more of. In two working days or less, you'll have a short video showing the plumbing searches you appear for, the plumbers who come up instead of you, and what would have to change. It's yours to keep whatever you decide, and if your area can't be won, the video says so.
