For UK tradespeople who want customers to find them on Google, not through a lead site that sells the same job to several firms. We set up your Google Business Profile, pages and reviews around how your trade is actually searched. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results: nothing upfront, and nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met.
Results agreed in writing first. You pay nothing until they're met
Only one business in your trade per area. Never your rival
Rescue Tyres: Google profile views in search +159%, June to August 2026
Each figure runs from the first month we tracked to the best month since, using Google's complete monthly data, which each client can open in their portal. We show calls where we can, because a call is somebody ready to book. Two more, without videos: Fast Tyre, a 24-hour mobile tyre fitter in London, went from 171 clicks from Google in June 2026 to 1,390 in September (Google Search Console). Park Royal Tyres went from 225 calls from the Google Business Profile in June 2026 to 311 in July, which covers two months.

We do not yet work for an electrician, plumber, heating engineer, locksmith, landscaper, tree surgeon, plasterer or carpenter, so none appears here. Our cleaning clients have a month of data or less. The nearest we can show is car valeting: eMobile Valeting in Derby went from 84 clicks from Google search in June 2026 to 294 in September (Google Search Console).
Whydogoodtradesloseworkthey never hear about?
Because the customer picks from the first screen of Google, and most trades are not on it. The job goes to whoever holds the map, the reviews and a page for that exact job, or it goes through a lead site. You never see the call you missed.
Three things are behind it. The quality of your work only counts once somebody has rung.
What a phone search shows
On 19 October 2026 we searched four trades on a phone in London: boiler repair, locksmith, tree surgeon, and painter and decorator. Every time, Google opened with a row of directories such as Trustatrader, Yell and Checkatrade, then a map with three businesses. Most of the ordinary results under the map were directories too, and for locksmiths, one national firm. Unless your profile is strong enough for the map, a customer meets a directory long before they meet you.
Lead sites are rented
Checkatrade, MyBuilder and Bark charge you for customers who found them, not you. You pay for the chance of a job, not the job, and a general request on Bark can go to as many as five professionals (Bark's terms). And a platform you rely on can go: Rated People's company is in liquidation after a resolution of 16 September 2026 (London Gazette). A profile and pages you own carry on working when the payments stop. What each platform charges
Reviews do the selling
Google says reviews count towards its local rankings, and that having more of them, with better ratings, can help. They also settle the choice, because three names on a map look much alike until someone reads what each one's customers wrote.
Roofer, plumberorbuilder?Your trade has its own page.
Roofing, plumbing and building each have a dedicated page, because each is searched in its own way and needs more room than a card further down. If that is your trade, start there.
Roofers

The parts of Google you can change, worked on every month once you have given us access to your profile and website.
Your Google profile. The category that fits what you mostly do, every service you offer, real job photos, hours that match when the phone gets answered, and a reply to every review. More on Google Business Profile management.
Pages named after the work. Consumer unit replacement, end of tenancy cleaning, stump grinding: each job you want gets a page titled in the customer's own words, not a line in a long list of services. What makes a service page rank
Citations. One spelling of your name, address and phone number across every UK directory that lists you, which is what NAP consistency means. The citations that matter
Numbers, not logos. Your register number or scheme membership placed where a customer can look it up, instead of a row of badges in the footer.
Monthly figures. Profile calls and views from Google Business Profile, and clicks from Search Console, month by month in your portal. What Google counts as a call
Tradescustomersplanfor,weeks or months ahead.
These jobs are mostly planned. The customer looks at photographs, checks what they can verify and books ahead, so the work follows each trade's own calendar, with proof that survives a careful look.
One difference between them: landscaping, tree services and carpenters are on Google's UK list for Local Services Ads, its pay-per-lead adverts for home services. Painters and plasterers are not (Google). Some of you compete with those paid listings as well as the map, and some do not.
Landscapers
Your customers plan ahead of the season. UK searches for 'garden design' climb from January and are most of the way to their yearly high by February, while searches for 'patio' peak in April or May (garden design and patio on Google Trends). So a garden design page written once the weather turns has missed the people who were planning. Taking waste away? In England you must register as a waste carrier, and the fine for not registering is unlimited (GOV.UK). Customers can look your number up free on the Environment Agency register, so publish it. APL and BALI both visit your sites before accrediting you, which is worth explaining in words, not just a logo. More on SEO for landscapers.
Tree surgeons
Your customer can get into trouble for hiring you. Felling or pruning a tree in a conservation area usually needs a section 211 notice to the council six weeks ahead, and government guidance says not knowing a Tree Preservation Order existed is generally no defence (GOV.UK). So a page on conservation areas, Orders and what you check before cutting is worth having. The Arboricultural Association points out that the trade is not regulated by government, which makes its Approved Contractor register an independent check a customer can run. UK searches for 'tree surgeon' are lowest every December, and on average highest from July to September (Google Trends). More on SEO for tree surgeons.
Painters and decorators
Nothing official vets this trade for the customer. No competent person scheme covers decorating (GOV.UK), so photographs, reviews and a membership you can explain do that job. Dulux Select Decorators checks your workmanship and customer service on site before you can join (Dulux), which is worth saying plainly. Exterior work is seasonal: UK searches for 'exterior painting' were at least twice as high in May as in December in each of the last four years (Google Trends). ColourHaus, a kitchen spray painter in Leeds, had 4 calls from the Google Business Profile in May 2026 and 13 in August. More on SEO for painters and decorators.
Plasterers and carpenters
Some plastering work has no season at all: across the last four years, the busiest month for UK 'artex removal' searches was August, August, December and February (Google Trends), so ranking all year matters more than timing. HSE lists textured coatings such as Artex among the typical places asbestos turns up (HSE), and tells workers never to sand them down (HSE task sheet). A page on how you deal with old Artex shows you know the risk. For carpenters, searches for 'fitted wardrobes' peaked in January in three of the last four years (Google Trends). Blocks of flats in England with storeys over 11 metres must have communal fire doors checked every three months (GOV.UK). If you fit fire doors, a page for managing agents earns its place.
Tradesthecustomerhastotrustbefore you arrive.
Here the customer either needs someone now or is about to hand over a key, and often both. So the work is accurate hours, a registration they can look up, and pages for the planned jobs as well as the emergencies.
Electricians, heating engineers and cleaners are on Google's UK list for Local Services Ads. Locksmiths are not (Google).
Gas and heating engineers
Heating runs on two calendars. UK searches for 'boiler service' were lowest in May or June in each of the last four years, and averaged highest from September to November (Google Trends). Interest in 'air source heat pump' peaked between January and March in each of those years (Google Trends). Heat pumps come with their own gate: Boiler Upgrade Scheme grants are claimed through MCS certified installers only (Ofgem), so if you hold MCS, a heat pump page that says so is one an uncertified rival cannot match. Gas work itself needs Gas Safe registration by law (HSE). Plumbing too? See SEO for plumbers.
Electricians
Two kinds of search pay an electrician: the fault that cannot wait and the job planned in advance. UK searches for 'emergency electrician' peaked in December in three of the last four years (Google Trends). Chargepoints are planned work with a gate of their own: only installers authorised by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles can claim its home chargepoint grants, and staying authorised means staying in a competent person scheme (GOV.UK). Local SEO for electricians, our guide, goes deeper on categories, Part P and landlord work. More on SEO for electricians.
Locksmiths
Anyone in the UK can call themselves a locksmith: there is no government licensing, as the Master Locksmiths Association points out. Its own approval means DBS-checked staff and regular inspections. The fakes know the gap. In July 2024 the ASA upheld a complaint against four locksmith websites after seeing no evidence of a locksmith at any of their addresses (ASA). Sterling Sky counts locksmith profiles among the most often suspended and advises spreading edits over several days in trades like yours, so that is how we change yours. UK searches for 'locksmith' change little through the year (Google Trends), so there is no quiet season for getting your hours wrong. Suspended already? Start with our recovery guide. More on SEO for locksmiths.
Cleaners and carpet cleaners
Cleaning covers three different businesses: regular cleans, one-off jobs and commercial contracts, and each is a separate page. UK searches for 'end of tenancy cleaning' peak every July or August (Google Trends). Cleaning was also the top reason for deposit claims at the Deposit Protection Service in 2025 (DPS), so write that page about getting the deposit back. Window, carpet and general cleaning topped Local Falcon's 2025 table of categories most likely to show Google AI Overviews (Local Falcon). Carpet cleaners can point to NCCA membership: training, insurance and a code of practice (NCCA). Chasing contracts? Read winning commercial cleaning contracts. More on SEO for cleaning companies.

Whatpeopleask us
What does SEO cost a trade business?
Two trades in two towns are never the same job, so you hear the figure after we have studied your patch, and you are free to say no. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results. There is nothing to pay upfront: you pay nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met. With the agreed results in, the fee runs a month at a time and stops whenever you tell us. Leave before that and nothing is owed. Websites, ads and social media are quoted separately and are not paid on results. More on paying on results
How long before the phone rings more?
There is no date we could promise and keep. The pace depends on how many firms in your trade work near you, how strong their profiles are and how much yours needs. You can watch the movement month by month in your portal. If you need calls this week, ads are the quicker tool, and we will say so. Because the SEO is paid on results, a slow market costs us time, not you money.
Will you work for another business in my trade near me?
No. We work for one firm per trade in an area, so your direct competitor cannot sign up alongside you. If someone in your trade nearby already has the spot, the first call is where you hear it.
I get my work from word of mouth and Checkatrade. Why bother with Google?
Keep both while they work. The risk is depending on them. A directory can raise its prices or shut, as Rated People's members found in 2026 when their memberships were closed and its leads were routed to Checkatrade. A Google profile is free and it stays in your name. What Rated People's closure means
I work from a van with no premises. Can I still get into the map pack?
Yes. Google calls that a service-area business, and tells you to keep your address off the profile if customers never come to it. Listing the places you cover is not the same as ranking there, though. Whitespark's tests found service areas did not move rankings at all, and a profile still ranks around the address behind it, shown or hidden. Reaching further takes a stronger profile and pages for the work. Setting up a profile without premises
Will AI search make local SEO pointless for trades?
Not on the evidence so far. AI Overviews, the AI summaries Google puts at the top of some results, mostly answer questions. Local Falcon's 2025 study counted them on 17.2% of commercial searches, against 58.3% of informational ones (Local Falcon). In our four London phone searches above, none appeared. We treat both as the same job: a complete profile, steady reviews and pages that answer real questions. Getting recommended by ChatGPT and AI Overviews
Can you get me to the top of the map across my whole area?
No one can promise that and mean it. Map results change with where the person searching is standing, so you can be first on one street and missing a mile away. The free analysis shows where you rank across your patch, street by street, and which parts are realistic to win.
Do you handle the rest of the marketing, like advertising, social media and the website?
Yes, as separate services. Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram ads, social media and website builds make up the rest of a trade's digital marketing. We price each of them once we have done the free analysis. None of them is paid on results. We suggest starting with local SEO and the Google profile, because what that builds stays yours. If your current website is sound, we work on it and improve it, whoever built it. Websites for tradesmen
