For UK painters and decorators, spray finishers included: we sort out your Google profile, give each kind of work its own page, from render and fascias to wallpapering and kitchen resprays, and make sure every customer is asked for a review. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results: there is nothing to pay upfront, and you pay nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met.

Read the full storyWe don't have figures for a general painter and decorator yet. The nearest is ColourHaus, a kitchen and uPVC spray painting firm in Leeds that joined us in May 2026. As well as the calls below, it appeared on Google 167% more often from June to August 2026, counting Google Search Console impressions and Google Business Profile views, and Google Search Console shows its clicks up 160% from June to September 2026. GS Renovation, a London renovation firm, works for the same kind of customer: a homeowner improving the house.

Read the full storyColourHaus sprays kitchens, uPVC and doors, so it is a spray finisher, not a general decorator. DH Painter & Decorator in Northampton, a general decorator, has a website we built, but its figures are too new to show. Windows differ because each figure runs from the first month we tracked to the best month since, using Google's complete monthly data. A call here is a tap on the profile's call button, as Google counts it (how that works).
On the details, because the headline facts barely differ. We pulled Google's unpaid map results for 'painter and decorator' in Leeds, Manchester and Bristol on 20 October 2026. In the three top tens, 29 of the 30 businesses had Painter and Decorator as their main Google category. Of the 25 with a rating, 21 scored 4.8 or more and 12 had fewer than 20 reviews.
When every listing says the same thing, the homeowner chooses on what is left: photos of a room like theirs, their job named in the services, a review from last month, and a website that answers how much, how long and how messy. That is what we build into your profile and pages.
And the searches are there to win. Between October 2025 and September 2026, Google's Keyword Planner put 'painters and decorators near me' at 18,100 a month across the UK, and 'decorators near me' at 5,400.
All year, but outside and inside work keep different calendars, and December is quiet for both. In Google Trends, UK searches for 'exterior painting' ran ahead of 'interior painting' every April to August from 2022 to 2026. From November to February it was the other way round in most months (Google Trends).
Keyword Planner puts numbers on the swing. Searches for 'exterior painting' went from about 1,600 in December 2025 to 6,600 a month from March to May 2026. Searches for 'upvc spraying near me' peaked at 880 in March and April, and 'kitchen respray near me' was busiest in October and February, at 1,600. All three hit their low in December, when 'painters and decorators near me' fell to 6,600, about a third of a normal month.
So the plan follows both calendars. Your render, fascia and uPVC pages, with photos from last summer's outside jobs, are best in place before the spring searches climb. From the autumn, posts on your profile can turn to interiors, wallpaper and kitchens. And we won't pretend SEO can fill the week before Christmas. The searches aren't there.
Yes, and Google shows different businesses for it. In the same three cities on the same day, not one business from the 'painter and decorator' top tens also made the top ten for 'upvc spraying' or for 'kitchen respray'.
The sprayers are filed differently too. Kitchen Renovator was the main Google category for 16 of the 30 kitchen respray results. And the demand is its own: Keyword Planner has 'kitchen respray near me' at about 1,000 a month across the UK and 'upvc spraying' at 720.
So if you spray as well as paint, kitchens, uPVC and doors each need a page of their own and a mention in your profile's services, and the main category goes to whichever work you want most (how that choice works). ColourHaus, our client in Leeds, works this way: kitchen respraying, uPVC, front doors and garage doors each have their own page. If kitchens are most of what you spray, you are up against the idea of a new kitchen, and our page for kitchen companies covers that fight.
Not directly. 'Dulux select decorator' gets about 10 UK searches a month (Keyword Planner), so few people look for the scheme on Google. The value is in what a homeowner can check, and in the extra listing each scheme gives you, linking to your site, with a name and number that ought to match your Google profile. If you belong to neither, nothing on your profile or site will suggest you do.
The Painting and Decorating Association calls itself the only UK-wide trade body for the trade (PDA). Joining takes at least four references from recent customers and a year's trading under one name (criteria). Its Code of Practice asks for written quotes and a six-month guarantee against faulty workmanship or materials. If you're a member, both belong on your quote page.
Homeowners can search the PDA's directory by the job they need, with categories such as hand painted kitchens, airless spraying, heritage work on pre-1919 homes and lead abatement (PDA). A member's profile can link to their website. If you are listed, your entry should name the same specialisms your website and profile do.
Members offer a 24-month workmanship guarantee and get a page on Dulux's decorator finder, with customer reviews and a link to their website (Dulux Select Decorators). That link should point at your strongest page, not just the home page, and the name and number on the listing should match your Google profile.
Four things, worked on every month: your Google profile, pages for the work you're after, reviews, and your listings on other sites. Google's own figures land in your portal monthly. Here is how each part is set up for painting and decorating. The version for every trade is on SEO for tradesmen.
If your website is what's holding you back, we say so. We built the site for DH Painter & Decorator in Northampton. Every service has its own page, there's a guide to the best time of year for exterior painting, and the quote form asks how the customer found the business, with Google Maps and AI assistants among the answers. Building a site is a separate quote (what we build).
Painter and Decorator as the main category, unless spraying brings in most of your work. Services in the homeowner's words: render painting, wallpaper hanging, fascias and soffits, kitchen respraying. Photos of the filling and sanding as well as the finish, because the preparation is where your price differs from a cheaper quote. Profile management
Exterior and render, interiors, wallpapering, kitchens, and uPVC and doors, each on a page that answers what the homeowner asks first: how long it takes, how much mess there will be and what moves the price. What a job page needs
According to HSE, lead pigments were common in paints for homes until the 1960s and weren't removed from everyday paints until the early 1980s. It lists dry sanding old paint among the jobs that put you most at risk (HSE). On period houses, a page on how you prepare old paintwork shows the owner you know the risk.
A simple request goes to every customer as each job is signed off, while the finish still looks its best. What they write is up to them. Asking without the awkwardness
Checkatrade, Yell, Facebook, the PDA or Dulux finder: wherever you are listed, the same trading name and phone number, so Google and the homeowner see one business. The UK listings that count
Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results. There is nothing to pay upfront: you pay nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met.
Websites, ads and social media are quoted separately after the free analysis. How pay on results works
Tell us your trade and area. We record a short video of where you rank, who is above you and what would have to change. It is yours to keep.
If your market is not winnable, we say so. If it is, we agree in writing what a result is and how it is measured, before anything starts.
Your Google Business Profile, the pages that need to rank, citations and reviews. One business per trade per area, so never your rival as well.
Clicks, calls and where you show up, in your own portal, straight from Google. You pay once the agreed results are met.
We don't have a price list. Competition differs from one patch to the next, so the free analysis shows how many decorators and sprayers are after your jobs, and the figure follows on the first call, before you commit. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work is paid on results: there is nothing to pay upfront, and you pay nothing until the results we agree with you in writing, before we start, have been met. Monthly fees start only then, and you can stop them at any point; walk away sooner and there's nothing to pay. Website builds, adverts and social media are priced separately. How paying on results works
Not by a date we could promise. The pace is set by Google and by the decorators above you, and we control neither. What we can show you up front is the size of the gap, in the free analysis, and the season you're aiming at: outside work is searched for in the spring and summer. None of the waiting is billed.
No. In each area we work for one painter and decorator, and say no to the rest while you're with us. If another decorator already holds your area, we say so before anything else.
You might not, and if so the analysis will tell you. Where SEO and marketing earn their keep for a decorator is the work recommendations rarely bring: spray jobs, the exterior season, a new area, or the bigger houses you'd like more of. If your diary is full a season ahead with work you're happy doing, spend your money elsewhere.
Not in the UK, as of October 2026. Painting and decorating isn't among the job types Google accepts for its UK Local Services Ads, while plumbers, roofers, carpenters and handymen are (Google). So the paid option on Google is ordinary search ads, charged per click, and away from Google there are lead sites such as Checkatrade, MyBuilder and Bark. If you want ads run for you, we quote them separately.
Yes. ColourHaus in Leeds, whose figures are above, sprays kitchens, uPVC and doors. Spraying needs separate pages, and separate services on your profile, because Google treats 'kitchen respray' and 'upvc spraying' as searches in their own right. If spraying is most of your work, we compare your main category with the sprayers above you before changing anything.
That's your call, but it should answer the price question either way. 'How much does a painter and decorator charge' and 'painter and decorator day rate' are each searched about 720 times a month across the UK (Keyword Planner). A page explaining what moves the price, such as the preparation, access, the number of coats and the paper chosen, answers them whether you print figures or quote every job.
Not if it works. We'll work on a site someone else built, as long as it's sound, and add the pages your work needs. If it can't be saved, we'll tell you why. A new build is priced on its own.
It can help with the writing. It can't photograph your jobs, ask your customers for reviews or keep your Google profile accurate. Google says using AI is fine unless the aim is to manipulate rankings, and that its ranking systems aim to reward original content showing experience and expertise (Google). For a decorator, the original part is your own jobs, photos and methods.
Tell us which jobs you'd like to be doing next season, from render to kitchen resprays, and the patch you cover. We'll look at the map the way your customers see it and send back a short recording within two working days: your place on it today, the decorators and sprayers listed above you, and the changes it would take to pass them. It's free. If your patch isn't winnable, the recording says so plainly.
